SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Gov. Gary R. Herbert appointed Justin Fawson to Utah House District 7 in the Utah State Legislature.  The appointment comes at the recommendation of the Republican Party delegates who selected Fawson to replace Rep. Ryan Wilcox.

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice will hold three additional public hearings throughout the state. The hearings allow interested parties to share ideas for criminal justice policy changes that should be considered by the Commission as a follow-up to Governor Gary Herbert's charge for reform, given during his 2014 State of the State address.

SALT LAKE CITY — (April 18, 2014) The latest jobs report released today shows Utah's economy added 35,800 jobs over the past 12 months, increasing the job growth rate from 2.5 percent to 2.8 percent.

SALT LAKE CITY - The Fifth District Judicial Nominating Commission has selected nominees for two vacancies on the juvenile court. The vacancies result from the retirement of Judge Hans Q. Chamberlain and the resignation of Judge Karla Staheli.  The Fifth Judicial District includes Beaver, Iron and Washington counties.

SALT LAKE CITY – (March 19, 2014) In addition to candidates for many federal, state and county offices, the filing deadline for seven positions on the Utah Board of Education ends this Thursday, March 20, at 5:00 p.m.

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah's unemployment rate in January hit a five-year low, falling to 3.9 percent as the state economy picked up speed and is on track for continued strong growth in 2014.

SALT LAKE CITY – (March 3, 2014) Gov. Gary R. Herbert has appointed Terryl Warner to fill a vacancy on the Utah State Board of Education, as the District 1 representative.
"Terryl's extensive community service, as well as her expertise in working with children in the justice system, makes her a valuable asset to the education board," said Gov. Herbert. "Her experience will greatly benefit the families of Utah. I am pleased to appoint someone with her abilities."

SALT LAKE CITY — (Feb. 28, 2014) Utah is expected to receive a modest increase in both on-going and one-time revenue to fund state programs, that's according to the consensus revenue forecast released today by the Governor's Office of Management and Budget, the Office of the Legislative Fiscal Analyst and the Utah State Tax Commission. 

SALT LAKE CITY – (Feb. 27, 2014) Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert wants the federal government to block grant Utah the money it would give for Medicaid expansion, allowing the state to administer its own program.

SALT LAKE CITY - The Third District Judicial Nominating Commission has selected nominees for a vacancy on the district court. The vacancy results from the passing of Judge Anthony Quinn. The Third Judicial District includes Salt Lake, Summit and Tooele counties.

SALT LAKE CITY – (Feb. 19, 2014) Governor Gary R. Herbert has appointed Keith C. Barnes to fill a vacancy in the Fifth District Court.

SALT LAKE CITY – (Feb. 4, 2014) Governor Gary R. Herbert ordered the lowering of the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah on the day of Utah County Sherriff's Sgt. Cory Wride's funeral, Wednesday, February 4, 2014. Sgt. Wride died in the line of duty last Thursday. The governor issued the following statement:

SALT LAKE CITY- (January 28, 2014) Governor Gary R. Herbert has named Wesley Smith as director of state and federal relations.

SALT LAKE CITY (Jan. 26, 2014) -  Governor Gary R. Herbert has appointed Tupakk A.G. Renteria to fill a vacancy on the Third District Juvenile Court.

SALT LAKE CITY— (Jan. 24, 2014) Utah's unemployment rate dropped again over December, now measuring 4.1 percent, far below the national average of 6.7 percent. The Utah economy added 22,500 jobs over the last year, and is on track for continued steady growth through 2014.

SALT LAKE CITY – The Second District Judicial Nominating Commission has selected nominees for a vacancy on the district court. The vacancy results from the retirement of Judge Michael D. Lyon, effective September 1, 2013. The Second Judicial District includes Davis, Morgan, and Weber counties.

SALT LAKE CITY – (Jan. 21, 2014) Gov. Gary R. Herbert has named Tami Pyfer as his education advisor.

The announcement that the Department of Justice will recognize same-sex marriages performed in Utah comes as no surprise and is consistent with previous direction to state agencies.

SALT LAKE CITY – The Fifth District Judicial Nominating Commission has selected nominees for a vacancy on the district court. The vacancy results from the retirement of Judge James L. Shumate effective March 31, 2014.  The Fifth Judicial District includes Beaver, Iron and Washington counties.

SALT LAKE CITY (Jan. 8, 2014) – The Governor's Chief of Staff Derek Miller sent the following email to Cabinet Members last night providing direction on the status of same-sex marriages in Utah:

SALT LAKE CITY (Jan. 6, 2014) – Gov. Gary Herbert has announced the appointment of former Lieutenant Governor Greg Bell as chair of the Utah Science Technology and Research (USTAR) Governing Authority. Bell, now president and CEO of the Utah Hospital Association, takes the place of outgoing chair Dinesh Patel, a business leader who has led USTAR since its inception in 2006.

FROM GOVERNOR GARY R. HERBERT:
"The Supreme Court made the correct decision to stay Judge Shelby's ruling in the Amendment 3 case. Clearly, the stay should have been granted with the original District Court decision in order to have avoided the uncertainty created by this unprecedented change."

SALT LAKE CITY - (Dec. 24, 2013) The Governor's Office sent the following email to Cabinet Members today in regards to issues stemming from the recent federal court rulings on Amendment 3 to the Utah State Constitution:
