Utah State University Reports Record Research Funding

Utah State University received a record $187 million in research awards during the 2010 fiscal year, a 29 percent increase over funding received in 2009. Total sponsored programs funding in 2010 was $42 million more than the 2009 figure. That is the largest increase — both dollars and percentage-wise — on record.

Utah State University President Stan Albrecht recently approved a Climate Action Plan that outlines steps aimed at minimizing USU’s greenhouse gas emissions. The plan is part of the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment that Albrecht signed in 2007. He was the first in the state to sign the pledge.
UVU's Dishman Brings Economic Ideals to Emerging Montenegro

Beginning last January, UVU Marketing Chair Paul Dishman taught the people of Montenegro about capitalism and free enterprise during a six-month Fulbright scholarship. The Baltic country is one of the world’s youngest autonomous states and its search for a viable economic model has been focused on some form of free-market commerce. It’s a major transition for Montenegro, and experts like Dishman are essential in bridging the gap.

University of Utah to expand Neuropsychiatric Institute

University of Utah Health Care and the U School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry will break ground July 7 on a new 80-bed, 120,000 square-foot expansion to the University Neuropsychiatric Institute (UNI). The ceremony takes place at 11 a.m. just east of the current UNI building at 501 Chipeta Way in the University's Research Park.

The Pacific-10 Conference announced today that the University of Utah has accepted an invitation to join the Conference as its 12th member. The Utes and the University of Colorado, which accepted an invitation to join the Pac-10 last week, are the Conference's newest members since 1978. "The addition of the University of Utah as the Conference's 12th member continues to strengthen the Pac-10's goals of becoming the country&'s leader in college athletics," said Larry Scott.
UVU Celebrates Completion of Second Habitat for Humanity Home

On Monday, June 14, Utah Valley University celebrated its second completed home in a partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Utah County during a ribbon-cutting. Built by students in the UVU Department of Construction Management under the direction of faculty member DeWayne Erdmann, the home was a project for the Terry family, a single mother who has her hands full caring for a toddler daughter, two young sons, and her aging mother.

Utah Moves Ahead on Common Core in English, Math

The Utah State Board of Education gave preliminary approval for Utah to move ahead in accepting the common core as a framework for setting the state's own standards and curriculum in both English language arts and mathematics. Final approval will likely come during the Board's August 6 meeting.
After eleven years at the University of Utah, Dr. Lorris Betz has announced his intention to retire as senior vice president for health sciences and CEO of University of Utah Health Care. He shared his decision with the University of Utah Board of Trustees during their monthly meeting today.

368 Inmates receive diplomas from South Park Academy

Teachers invited Coonradt to speak about his book because the text aligns with curriculum that is currently being taught at the school. Students were also assigned a paper based on the book.

Entry Years Enhancement program helps teachers meet the requirements for professional license

The Entry Years Enhancement (EYE) is a structured support program for Level 1 educators as they fulfill the requirements for a Level 2 professional license. EYE provides novice teachers with school, district, and state support for a three-year period. All new educators are required to participate and all requirements must be completed within the first three years of service.

New Found Dinosaur Fossil Bears WSU Professor's Name

The Diabloceratops eatoni is a recently discovered fossil record named for WSU paleontologist and professor Jeffrey G. Eaton. Amazingly, it’s the fourth time Eaton has been honored with a fossil record named for him, having previously been immortalized with a marsupial, lizard and a genus trace fossil bearing the Eaton nomenclature.
