SALT LAKE CITY - The Second District Judicial Nominating Commission has selected nominees for a vacancy on the district court. The vacancy results from the retirement of Judge Michael D. Lyon, effective September 1, 2013. The Second Judicial District includes Davis, Morgan, and Weber counties.

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert and Treasurer Richard K. Ellis announced today the affirmation of the State's AAA general obligation bond rating by all three bonding agencies - Standard & Poor's, Moody's Investors Service, and Fitch Ratings. Utah is one of only nine states to earn a AAA bond rating by all three of the rating agencies, also known as a "triple-triple" rating.

SALT LAKE CITY - Early Thursday morning Governor Gary R. Herbert was notified that the son of a leader within his Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) executive protection detail died suddenly in a tragic accident while serving a mission in Guatemala for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Elder Siosiua "Josh" Taufa is the second oldest son of UHP Sergeant Aiveni "Ivan" Taufa.
SALT LAKE CITY - Today Governor Gary R. Herbert appointed five members to the Executive Branch Ethics Commission in accordance with S.B. 86 Independent Executive Branch Ethics Commission. S.B. 86, passed by the 2013 Legislature, created the Executive Branch Ethics Commission and requires the Governor appoint two former elected officials, one former judge and two citizens.
SALT LAKE CITY - Today Governor Gary R. Herbert named Col. Keith D. Squires the Commissioner of Public Safety. The appointment follows a nationwide search to replace retiring Commissioner Lance Davenport. As the department's current Deputy Commissioner, Director of Emergency Management and the Governor's Homeland Security Advisor, Squires has assisted in the oversight responsibility for 1,573 Department of Public Safety employees and a budget of $190 million.

SALT LAKE CITY - Governor Gary R. Herbert has ordered the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah to be lowered in honor of U.S. Army Specialist Cody J. Towse. The flags will be flown at half-staff at all state facilities from sunrise to sunset on June 1, 2013.

SALT LAKE CITY - Today Governor Gary R. Herbert named Carlos Braceras the executive director of the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT). The appointment follows a nationwide search to replace retired former executive director John Njord. The former UDOT deputy director for 12 years, Braceras is responsible for UDOT's 1,800 employees and the design, construction, and maintenance of Utah's 6,000-mile system of roads and highways.

SALT LAKE CITY ? Governor Gary R. Herbert today announced the completion of a conservation plan to preserve greater sage grouse in Utah. The plan will protect more than 90 percent of Utah's greater sage grouse through incentive-based provisions on private and school trust lands, and through reasonable regulation by federal agencies that manage land in Utah.
