6.5 million recreation visits were made to Utah?s five national parks during 2012. 5.1 million recreation visits occurred at Utah?s 7 national monuments, two national recreation areas, and one national historic site.

According to just released jobs figures, Washington County ended 2012 with a full year of 5-6 percent job growth under its belt. This level of employment expansion falls within what I call the ?Goldilocks? range?near the county?s long-term average and not too fast, not too slow, but ?just right.? Keep in mind that in other areas this rate of nonfarm expansion would appear excessive.

While only Iron and Kane counties showed an overall improvement in permit values, home-permitting picked up dramatically in the area's largest counties. On the other hand, new nonresidential permit values dropped in every southwest county. Typically improvement in nonresidential permitting lags a surge in new homebuilding.
