Leslie McFarlane, mammals coordinator for the Division of Wildlife Resources, says black bears are doing really well in Utah. Almost all of the areas where people camp in Utah have a population of black bears near them.

After seeing and hearing reports of dead fish along the banks of Calder Reservoir, biologists set nets to determine the extent of the die-off.

Hunt turkeys starting May 2

Utah's general statewide turkey hunt starts April 29 for those who will be 17 years old or younger on July 31. On May 2, the hunt opens to hunters of all ages.

If you own a fishing boat, you're on your way to some awesome fishing trips in Utah. A boat allows you to access almost any part of the body of water you're fishing.

The April 16 event will be held at the Park-and-Ride lot at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon in Salt Lake County.

Scouts travel back in time to 1858 ? 1861 and enter the world of a soldier with Johnston?s Army at Camp Floyd in the Utah Territory.

You can hear and watch this ritual yourself at a free wildlife-viewing event in east-central Utah. The event will happen April 9 at Emma Park, about 13 miles north of Price.

The free wildlife viewing event runs from 9 a.m. to noon at Steinaker State Park. The park, which includes Steinaker Reservoir, is just off US Highway 191, about five miles north of Vernal.

There's still time to plan your Utah ski vacation.

The NRA's Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) is a program that helps young hunters, ages 10 to 18, who have already passed hunter education develop and improve their hunting, marksmanship and safety skills.

Last August, the DWR put transmitters on seven pelicans. One is on the Salton Sea in southern California; the rest are in Mexico on the Sea of Cortez.

We're all about dinosaurs here at Red Fleet. The park even has a geo-cache set up, and one hint to its location is: think dinosaurs.

You can see this spectacle yourself on Feb. 26 and 27 at the annual Delta Snow Goose Festival. The festival will be held at and near Gunnison Bend Reservoir, just west of Delta. Admission is free.

With snow on the ground and adventure in the air, now is the perfect time for some winter fun. Both East Canyon State Park and Wasatch Mountain State Park are hosting a Winterfest event on Saturday Jan. 16.

A new black bear strategy, started in Utah in 2015, did exactly what wildlife managers hoped it would: it led to government agencies taking fewer bears and hunters taking more.

This new winter program features a day of Olympic winter sports including Alpine skiing, Nordic ski jumping, Freeride skiing, and Luge.

While summertime fun is always a favorite at Jordanelle, the park still has much to offer during the winter months. The main and PWC boat ramps at Hailstone are plowed during winter months until the ice forms on the reservoir.

So what's standing between you and a great ice fishing experience in Utah this winter? Maybe only one thing: Knowing which waters to fish. Fortunately, many waters in Utah provide good ice fishing year after year.

Conservation officers with the Division of Wildlife Resources are conducting massive patrols on ranges on which deer congregate in the winter. They're conducting the patrols with one goal in mind: to protect Utah's mule deer from poachers.

On Nov. 25, about 200 elk were near the meadow at the Hardware Ranch Wildlife Management Area. In the evenings, the bulls in the group were bugling.

Friday, October 23rd will be to move bison from the southern portion of the island to handling facilities on the north end of the island. On Saturday, any bison left on the range will be moved to the handling facilities.

The number of ducks counted on North American breeding grounds this past spring was the highest in 60 years. That's great news for Utah's hunters: it means more ducks than ever will migrate though Utah this fall.

During a recent helicopter survey over central Tooele County, wildlife biologists saw something they've seen only twice in 20 years: more than 100 chukar partridge per square mile.

Based on data collected from hunters and trappers, cougars and bobcats are doing well in Utah. Because the populations are doing well, the Utah Wildlife Board approved hunting and trapping rules that are similar to last season.
