Salt Lake City — (June 25, 2014) In response to the decision issued on the state's appeal to the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, Gov. Gary R. Herbert released the following statement:

SALT LAKE CITY — (June 20, 2014) Utah continues to solidify its position as the home of the nation's strongest and most diverse economy, as unemployment dropped to its lowest level since Nov. 2008. The state unemployment rate is down to 3.6 percent, down from 3.8 percent last month, according to figures released by the Dept. of Workforce Services today.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – At today's U.S. Chamber of Commerce Small Business Summit, Gov. Gary R. Herbert joined the Governor's Roundtable to discuss issues outlined in the Enterprising States 2014 report and why Utah is succeeding. In the annual report, Utah earned the most top 10 and top 25 rankings in the 33 categories measured in the study.

Salt Lake City, UT – The Appellate Judicial Nominating Commission has scheduled a meeting for June 13 at noon to review applications of individuals interested in filling a judicial vacancy resulting from the resignation of Judge Carolyn B. McHugh following her confirmation as a judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

SALT LAKE CITY – (May 27, 2014) Gov. Gary R. Herbert has named Justin Harding as his new chief of staff. Harding has served several members of Utah's congressional delegation including his most recent position as chief of staff to Rep. Jason Chaffetz for the past five years. He will assume his new role in the Governor's Office effective June 16.

SALT LAKE CITY – The First District Judicial Nominating Commission has selected nominees for a vacancy on the district court.  The vacancy results from the retirement of Judge Ben H. Hadfield, effective August 15, 2014.  The First Judicial District includes Cache, Rich and Box Elder counties.

SALT LAKE CITY – (May 9, 2014) Utah Gov. Gary R. Herbert has issued the following statement about the situation in San Juan County with Recapture Canyon:

SALT LAKE CITY - Today, Gov. Gary R. Herbert appointed Paul Dame and Michael Leavitt to the 5th District Juvenile Court. The 5th District includes: Beaver, Iron and Washington Counties.

To kickoff the first annual Governor's Outdoor Recreation Summit, Gov. Gary R. Herbert, the School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration (SITLA), and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will finalize the largest exchange of Utah land in over a decade. The deal signifies a win-win for recreation, development and public schools in Utah, and involves 60,000 acres in Uintah, Grand and San Juan counties.
