Salt Lake City - Utah Governor Jon Huntsman has tapped Colonel D. Lance Davenport to be Commissioner of the Utah Department of Public Safety. Davenport currently serves as Superintendent of the Utah Highway Patrol. He replaces Commissioner Scott T. Duncan who stepped down this week for health reasons.

Salt Lake City - Utah Governor Jon Huntsman announced today that Department of Public Safety Commissioner Scott T. Duncan, who has worked for the State for 32 years, has resigned his post for health reasons. Utah Highway Patrol Colonel Lance Davenport will serve as acting commissioner of the department until a search for the new commissioner is completed.

Salt Lake City, Utah - Utah Governor Jon Huntsman has nominated Kent L. Jones as the new Utah State Engineer and Director of the Division of Water Rights. The nomination has been sent to the Utah Senate for consideration. If approved by the Senate, Jones will officially replace Jerry Olds, who retired in December 2008.

Salt Lake City, Utah - The Utah Population Estimates Committee announced today that Utah's population was an estimated 2,757,779 on July 1, 2008 - up 58,225 or 2.2% from July 1, 2007. "In 2007 we increased our population at the rate of 10 people an hour. This year our growth was seven people an hour," said Michael Mower, Utah Population Estimates Committee Chair.

Hilder to fill the upcoming vacancy on the Utah Court of Appeals resulting from the retirement of Judge Judith Billings, one of the original members of that court. He also appointed Marvin D. The Digital States Survey, conducted every two years by the Center for Digital Government, is the most widely recognized and respected study of information technology in the country.
