SALT LAKE CITY (Dec. 19, 2014) – Utah job growth ranks third in the nation at 3.3 percent and unemployment remains at 3.6 percent, fourth lowest in the nation, according to new data released today. Utah's economy ends the calendar year strong, adding new jobs each month in 2014.

SALT LAKE CITY (Dec. 18, 2014) –  Gov. Gary R. Herbert has appointed Judge Constandinos G. Himonas to serve as an associate justice on the Utah Supreme Court. Judge Himonas will fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Utah Supreme Court Justice Ronald E. Nehring on Feb. 1, 2015.

SALT LAKE CITY (Dec. 5, 2014) – Gov. Gary R. Herbert has appointed Jennifer A. Brown as a District Court Judge in the 4th District to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Donald J. Eyre.

Gov. Gary R. Herbert will participate with local students in the “Hour of Code,” a nationwide initiative organized by nonprofit Code.org designed to encourage students of all ages to devote an hour to computer science education. The governor will also declare Dec. 8-12 as Computer Science Education Week in Utah.

Gov. Gary R. Herbert will comment and answer questions about the Healthy Utah Plan, the state’s alternative to Medicaid expansion. The governor’s comments will follow Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox and Utah Department of Health Executive Director Dr. David Patton’s presentation to the Health Reform Task Force where they will unveil the Healthy Utah Plan. Community leaders will join Gov. Herbert during the press conference and will also be available for comment.

Herbert has declared Nov. 29 "Small Business Saturday." This is part of a nationwide effort to encourage holiday shoppers to buy locally in their own communities.

SALT LAKE CITY (November 24, 2014) - The State Board of Canvassers met today and certified the final results for all statewide and multi-county races and questions. The county clerks throughout the state ensured a smooth election for the 577,973 voters who cast a ballot in the General Election.

New policies aimed at reducing recidivism, saving taxpayers more than $500 million

SALT LAKE CITY (Nov. 12, 2014) – The Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice (CCJJ) today announced a comprehensive set of data-driven recommendations for the upcoming legislative session that will reduce recidivism, hold offenders accountable and save taxpayers an estimated $542 million by averting almost all of Utah's projected prison growth over the next two decades.

The Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice (CCJJ) will present Gov. Gary R. Herbert with recommendations to change Utah’s criminal justice policy in an effort to reduce recidivism, make streets safer and save taxpayers millions of dollars.

SALT LAKE CITY – The Third District Judicial Nominating Commission has selected nominees for two vacancies on the district court.  These vacancies result from the retirements of Judge Robin Reese, effective Dec. 31, 2014 and Judge Denise Posse Lindberg, effective Jan. 1, 2015.  The Third Judicial District includes Salt Lake, Summit and Tooele counties.

Utah's latest jobs report showed the unemployment rate holding steady at 3.5 percent while job growth was up to 3.7 percent. In all, Utah added some 47,600 jobs over the past 12 months.

SALT LAKE CITY (Oct. 21, 2014) – Gov. Gary R. Hebert and Congressman Rob Bishop will join with local leaders and conservation groups to share the details of a precedent-setting agreement with Daggett County. The agreement will advance both conservation and development efforts in eastern Utah.

SALT LAKE CITY - There are 14 days until the Nov. 4 election, but beginning today through Friday, Oct. 31, select counties will hold Early Voting at locations across the state. Of Utah's 29 counties, 19 are offering Early Voting, and the remaining 10 have sent by-mail ballots to every registered voter in their county.

SALT LAKE CITY (Oct. 14, 2014) –  Gov. Gary R. Herbert has appointed Laura S. Scott as a judge to fill a vacancy on the Third District Court.

SALT LAKE CITY – Gov. Gary R. Herbert has authorized the lowering of the flag of the United States of America and the flag of the State of Utah on Sun., Oct. 12, 2014 to memorialize fallen firefighters in observance of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service weekend.

Gov. Gary R. Herbert  will discuss his proposed Healthy Utah plan
during a visit to Oquirrh View Community Health Center in Taylorsville. The
Healthy Utah plan is the governor’s alternative to Medicaid expansion. The plan
would use federal dollars to provide private health care coverage to nearly 111,000
low-income Utahns.

SALT LAKE CITY  – The Appellate Judicial Nominating Commission has scheduled a meeting for Oct. 10 at noon to review applications of individuals interested in filling a vacancy on the Utah Supreme Court resulting from the retirement of Associate Chief Justice Ronald E. Nehring effective Feb. 1, 2015. The Commission will meet in the conference room of the Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice located in suite 330 of the Senate Building in Salt Lake City.

SALT LAKE CITY (Oct. 7, 2014) - The results of the attorney general’s review of Utah’s adoption of Common Core standards was presented to Gov. Gary R. Herbert, today. The review was requested as part of an effort to resolve divisive issues in education and address questions regarding any current federal entanglements associated with the Common Core standards.

Gov. Gary R. Herbert will release the results of the attorney general's legal review of  Utah's adoption of the Common Core standards. The purpose of the review is to clarify state control of academic standards and local district and charter school control of the curriculum. The governor requested the review from the attorney general in July as part of an effort to resolve divisive issues in education.

Gov. Gary R. Herbert will launch Envision Utah's "Your Utah Your Future" campaign, the first statewide effort in the country to actively gather citizen feedback on eleven key areas affected by the anticipated growth of the state.  Visuals will include statewide growth models and Envision Utah's "Build Your Utah 2050" interactive survey.
